RAF Flypast for the Queen's Birthday

Post by Scylla »

On Saturday 12 June 2010 a formation of RAF aircraft will over-fly Buckingham Palace as part of HM The Queen’s Official Birthday celebrations. This is an annual State Event, the major part of this event is The Queen’s Birthday Parade (The Trooping of the Colour). After the Parade is complete, the Royal Party return to Buckingham Palace to greet crowds in the Mall from the Palace balcony. For many years it has been tradition for the RAF to pay their respects to HM The Queen with a flypast over Buckingham Palace.

Unfortunately the Lancaster is unable to take part in the Queens Birthday Flypast on Saturday 12 June 2010 as following a routine check it has been found that due to normal wear and tear one of the undercarriage struts needs to be replaced. Due to the age of the aircraft this could not be made and fitted in time for the Flypast on Saturday. However, it is hoped that the aircraft will be back in the air, completing planned displays within a week.

The Flypast will form up in a holding pattern over the sea East of Southwold, with the slower flying Battle of Britain Memorial Flight holding North of Cambridge. The main formation will route to Buckingham Palace via Colchester, with BBMF joining the main route at the outskirts of Northeast London. The now combined formation will overfly the Palace at 1 o’clock, before exiting via RAF Northolt and RAF Halton before finally dispersing over RAF Brize Norton.
